| St. Elmo's Fire |

No not the movie. I was just thinking about the idea of St. Elmo's fire and what it is (a meteorological phenomena experienced in thunderstorms at sea) and wondered why it was called that. As it turns out St. Elmo is the patron saint of sailors, but also as it happens his name is meant to be evoked when one has intestinal ailments.
So really, St. Elmo's fire could also be burning fiery diarrhea.

So I'm in a motel in michigan that has free wi-fi, and I can connect to the wi-fi server but not to the web. I can get onto World of Warcraft just fine (in fact with a lower latency than I enjoy in my home) and other programs but web browsers won't work. Anyone know what might be causing this and a potential fix? In case you're wondering I'm posting this from my iPhone.

The more I listen to the new Prodigy album the more I like it! Perhaps Liam is no longer an artist in his prime, but he still knows how to craft some kick your fucking head in beats.

I'm a relatively jaded and cynical individual, some may say particularly when it comes to my entertainment (music, movies, games) consumption. However I am in awe of this movie.

So, several years ago when my girlfriend Jen and I were still dating and hadn't moved in with one another, we were out and about and I found a cheap copy of a couple of early Brian Eno albums I didn't yet have namely Here Come the Warm Jets and Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy). Both I had been told were hailed as brilliant masterpieces etc etc. TTM(BS) was okay, it did have the original version of Third Uncle which was later brilliantly covered by Bauhaus, but HCTWJ was just what I expected a very chill relaxing experimental sort of instrumental music. Just what you'd want to hear from the formative years of the father of ambient music.
Well so I didn't listen to either CD for quite some time, but I pulled HCTWJ out probably a year or so ago and after a time away from it decided I REALLY liked it! I typically listen to a lot more abrasive sort of music (though my tastes do vary widely) and not much my parents approve of (though isn't that the way of things) but this one I thought my dad would dig so I bought him a copy for Xmas last year. Well it didn't come in time, and so it sat, still shrinkwrapped, on a shelf and through a move to a new apartment until today when my dad came down for a visit and I finally gave it to him. We unwrapped it and stuck it in his car's CD player and much to my astonishment this was NOT the CD I remember listening to one bit!
Same cover art, same track listing, same catalogue number, different music completely. And I mean like the difference between Siouxie and the Banshees and the Mormon Tabernacle choir sort of different! What the fuck right? The lyrics on this new cd definitely matched the song titles on the back of the CD case, so this album I had bought for my dad most definitely WAS HCTWJ. So the question is, then, just what the FUCK had I been listening to and liked so much?
Finally getting home and doing a quick synch to CDDB its apparently a different album, from a different band, on the same label (EG Eno's label). The album: self titled album by Penguin Cafe Orchestra. Never heard of them. Damn good though, definitely recommend it :)

Because I have gotten a few questions lately regarding this site, I figured I'd spread the word about it: http://www.sphiatt.com Official, region 0 DVD box sets of all your favorite series at dirt cheap prices. I can vouch that they are not bootlegs or anything of the sort. Most series (26 eps) go for around $20-$25, contain dubs and subs as well as special features. Best of all there is free shipping, which is usually pretty speedy, and the website itself is clean with no banners.

as I commented to Phil, not only do I believe this test seriously underestimates my evilness, but most of the things on that list are things I consider GOOD and values I will one day instill in my children. Pray you all, as I do, that never happens.
